Animal Show Ad
Movie Cover
This is one of my earliest works taken during my second year at Brigham Young University. The idea of this project was to scan the cover of any book and then re-create that image into an ad for a paid event.
I wish I could remember the name of the book this cover was taken from but it has been a decent span of years since I'd taken the class.
The inspiration for this design was following that of dog magazines and pet shelter ads, which included a block quote to capture viewer attention and tags specifying the ad has been approved by sponsors.
During my second to last semester before finishing up my degree in Graphic Design, I was given the project to design a movie poster.
My process was to first take as many different pose photos as possible. It was a really cold winter so it was freezing outside but I wanted to have a theme of something thriller related so I took most of my photos laying in the grass and even had a bucket of water poured on my head (I was definitely freezing after), to create a setting of gloom or despair. In the end, those photos were scrapped and I went with this theme of having a body lying in the woods. As a final touch, the colors were dulled to a monochromatic color scheme to emphasize the setting and tone of the film.
Website Design
For this design project, we were given the parameters to design the homepage of a website. If you haven't already guessed, I love animals! So of course this website features an animal pet clinic.
I wanted to make sure my website was clear and concise so the front page focuses on the address for the clinic, their open hours, a number to reach them by and a statement covering what the clinic strives to achieve.
To top off making the website look authentic, I added on the AAHA animal health care license tag which shows customers that the clinic is a professional establishment that will offer their pets the proper care.
Christmas Card Design
This was a project that my dad requested. He wanted to have a custom card designed for Christmas a few years back, so he sent me over a design preference and I put this together for him.
This design is not original. I will not be including the card in my main portfolio but I decided to add it here to show the diversity of the different projects I can create.
Watercolor Baroque
I absolutely loved painting this watercolor piece! Does it look familiar? if you are an art major, it should! This piece took inspiration off of the Baroque Italian painter
Caravaggio. Made the connection yet?
The cat peering into the lake and seeing a mighty white tiger is a rendition of the Narcissus.
I wish I had managed to capture the cat with harsher shading as the Baroque period sought to emphasize in their works. I was worried if I tampered with the picture anymore than necessary, I would make a mistake and lose a good bit of detail.
Should I find the time to recreate this painting, I will do just that and have the cat peering closer to the waters surface.
Brochure
The first design I was ever tasked with making. When I first began my graphic design courses, we were tested with making a flyer to advertise a conference meeting.
This assignment was to test our current understanding of the design elements and how well we could implement them.
Given my experience now, I would definitely make changes if this were an actual professionally made flyer. The text is all using varied line alignments that fail to unify the design, as well as the important of info is scattered, or placed in the wrong hierarchy order.
Magazine Spread
My aim for this project was to create a magazine spread that put together a simple but clean magazine layout featuring cited doctrine and inspirational quotes that follow the flow of the story being presented.
Inspiration Quote
A design to practice pairing typography with a clean and visially appealing image.
This design was made during my first graphic arts class. I have definitely come a long way compared to my first design pieces.
Banner
This was a banner designed for a gamer group that called themselves Darkrising. They were an established group that wanted a styalized, custom banner to represent their community.
I enjoyed playing along side them, so I happily obliged and made them this design for free.
Youtube Logo
Logos are an important aspect of being a graphic designer. I needed experience to cover all forms of graphic work so I took a request from my brother to make him a YouTube logo and it turned out wonderfully!
The design is simple but effective and I couldn't be happier with the result!
I may not have many designs under my belt yet, but as I continue to grow and learn, I will take any opportunity I can to get my work out there!
Watercolor
A watercolor painting to practice capturing the appearance of glass.
For this project, we were tasked with setting up a unique background to place our personal glass bottles on and then take pictures to capture the setting. We then had to paint the photos as best we could.
Business Logo
This logo was designed for a new business just starting out of the gates that focuses on energy work and helping create balance and peace of mind.
